Chemicals that will damage granite or quartz worktops

Whilst both granite and quartz surfaces have low porosity, attacking the stones with strong chemicals is asking for trouble. the following chemicals should be avoided completely:

  • highly acidic or alkaline liquids
  • nail polish remover
  • concentrated bleach
  • caustic soda
  • paint strippers
  • strong chemical cleaning fluids
  • permanent markers or inks

What if these chemicals have fallen onto the worktops accidentally?

If an accident with chemicals does occur, blot up the material and immediately clean the area with lots of water. This should dilute its effect. A thorough cleaning with soap and water will also help.

A range of specialist chemicals do exist to counter some of the damaging effects of other chemicals. Please call us and we can advise you further on a case by case basis.
